I had no idea these existed!!!

For the longest time I thought to get into the backcountry in winter, you HAD to be a skier. Everyone I’ve ever seen out “touring” goes uphill on 2 skis which made the idea of snowboarding in the backcountry seem pretty outlandish.

BUT THEN I was introduced to a SPLITboard- which is pretty much just a snowboard that splits into two ski-like halves for uphill travel, then locks back together for the ride down (srsly whoever invented this is a genius)

This is my first season splitboarding, and I’ve been absolutely loving it. It has combined two of my favorite activities- hiking and snowboarding- and is my new favorite way to get some exercise in winter!

So how much does it cost to visit Antarctica?!

… in short- its NOT cheap

Antarctica is one of the most remote places on Earth and visiting is not only an adventure, but it is also requires a A LOT of moving parts to get you there safely.

When you look at the cost for a typical Antarctica expedition, you’ll see prices typically START around $6,000 for the BUDGET trips and can go up to anywhere around $50,000 for the more luxurious options.

So why is it so expensive?
-the extreme remoteness of the location
-the need for specialized ice-strength ships
-large, specialized crew needed to operate the expedition ship
-strict tourism regulations that limit the amount of visitors and operations
-limited infrastructure & supplies

With how widely the cost varies, choosing a ship operator can be one of the most stressful parts of visiting Antarctica. We chose go on a @polarlatitudes expedition ship for a NUMBER of reasons, but mostly because we wanted our voyage to be focused on adventure and eco-friendly exploration rather than luxury and non sustainable travel.

It is CRUCIAL that you do your research when sailing to Antarctica because many of the “budget” ships do not allow you to go on land or offer kayaking or other adventures while you’re there. And many of the “luxury” ships put an emphasis on material luxuries without focusing on sustainable practices.

Its so important to choose an itinerary and ship that suits your adventure preferences, but PLEASE also choose a company that cares about sustainable tourism 🫶🏼

Growing up I used to want to be one of the “pretty girls” so bad. I remember times when I would stand in the mirror wondering WHY I didn’t get the perfect body or WHY my skin was so pale or WHY my hair wasn’t thick and long.

I was raised in the south where beauty standards were very cookie cutter. To be considered pretty you had to look, dress, and act a certain way and even then you could STILL be picked apart for even the smallest thing.

Society has always put a lot of pressure on women to be externally “pretty”, but the thing is, that kind of beauty doesn’t last, and it’s not what really matters.

The moments I’ve felt most beautiful weren’t because of how I looked but because of how I felt—when I was laughing with people I love, when I was proud of something I did, when I was kind without thinking twice.

Being pretty has taken on a whoooole new meaning and I’m proud of how pretty I’ve become 🫶🏼🫶🏼

@visitflorida is a GEM for outdoor adventure. We spent 4 adventure packed days exploring some of Florida’s state parks and hidden gems and I am so stoked to share our experience!

When we first planned our trip we knew we wanted to base out of one of the state parks but didn’t want to drive the van all the way down there to do it. As soon as I heard about @rvshare I knew it was the perfect solution!

@RVshare is an online platform where you can rent out someone’s RV for a set amount of time- like renting a vacation home from an owner! We absolutely LOVED how much flexibility and variety that they offered and were so stoked to try out a new rig for the weekend! We typically travel in our camper van so we chose to rent a large class C RV which felt super luxurious!

Since we were flying in and only had a few days to explore, we had @RVshare deliver our rig directly to our campsite in Myakka River State Park! It was SO NICE not to worry about picking it up + we didn’t have to waste any time setting it up- they took care of everything!

Here are some of our best tips for RV-ing in Florida 👇🏼

🥪 stock up on groceries: We love cooking out when camping so we always stock up on food as soon as we land. @publix is every Floridian’s fav - it’s the best place to get snacks and groceries!

🚐 Get to know your RV: work with the owner to learn the ropes of your rental and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions—they’re always happy to help!

🐊 Watch for wildlife: Florida State Parks are FULL of wildlife. Do not feed them OR leave food outside of your RV!

☀️ Check the weather: RVs are great, even if it rains! With Florida’s 230+ sunny days a year, you’re likely to enjoy plenty of sunshine—but just in case, pack some games and enjoy a cozy movie night indoors.

🚙 Choose the right RV: it’s important to do your research and chose an RV that suits your adventure needs. @RVshare has a filter for EVERYTHING like RV type, hookup type, pet friendly, fresh water tank capacity, etc.

🇦🇶 Antarctica 🇦🇶

I have tried to write this caption like 20x and works are continuously escaping me.

Sailing to Antarctica was unlike anything I had ever experienced. We all probably know how the journey began… the Drake Passage. For two days, the ship rocked and rolled as we saw albatrosses soaring over the waves and whales coming up for air in the distance. On day 2 the first icebergs appeared on the horizon, and I I knew we had arrived at the edge of the world!

Stepping onto the Antarctic Peninsula for the first time was surreal—standing in front of the biggest glaciers I had ever seen, an infinite amount of curious penguins, and the absolute silence of the icy wilderness.

Each day brought a new adventure: navigating through icebergs in a small Zodiac boat, standing just feet from massive elephant seals, kayaking through little islands of penguins, and visiting historic research stations that told stories of human resilience in one of the harshest environments on Earth.

I truly cannot put into words how incredible every single second of this adventure was. Antarctica changed me in ways I never expected. Standing in the vast, untouched wilderness… experiencing REAL silence for the first time… watching glaciers calve into the sea… seeing wildlife thrive in such harsh and extreme conditions… and witnessing the raw beauty of an unspoiled world made me feel closer to nature than I ever have before 🥹

Antarctica truly left an imprint on my soul—a reminder that the world is vast, fragile, and worth fighting for 🫶🏼

“So what was your favorite part about traveling to Antarctica”

Since we’ve gotten back from our trip, we’ve been asked this question SO many times. I’ve contemplated answering with a pretty generic answer like… the penguins… the icebergs… or the whales, but as amazing and wonderful and otherworldly those things were- they weren’t the best part for me.

My favorite part of our 10 day voyage to Antarctica was HANDS DOWN the people. We intentionally booked our trip with @whoatravel so we would have a community of people to share this once in a lifetime experience with.

We met this group of 8 “strangers” at the furthest point in South America where we all boarded an expedition ship with @polarlatitudes, sailed for 2 days over the angry seas of the drake passage, and explored the wildest and most remote continent in the world together.

And somewhere along the way (like day 2 😂) we became one big happy adventurous family!

My favorite travel memories are always the ones where I’m having the biggest belly laugh with a kindred spirit, or the ones where I’ve shared deep conversations and parts of me with a total stranger that I wouldn’t dare share with a peer back at home, or the happy discoveries and giddy “woo hoos” with fellow travelers that just GET IT.

The bonds formed during travel are unlike any other because they’re formed on shared experiences, trauma bonding (drake passage 🫣), spontaneity, and the absolute JOY of seeing the world together!!

I am so so thankful for my Antarctica family! And I CACKLE every time I watch this video back! Who knew impersonating a penguin would be so dang funny … & honestly hard to do 😅

Typical day in Antarctica!!

One of the first questions we get when we tell people we went to Antarctica is - WHAT do you even do in Antarctica?! So I figured I’d take you along on a typical day of exploration and what that looks like!

0730-0830: breakfast buffet

0900-1130: first excursion- this can be either a “landing”, a zodiac cruise, or kayaking and typically lasts anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on weather

1230-1330: lunch on the boat- during lunch the ship will move sites so our second excursion is in a TOTALLY new area

1500-1700: second excursion- landing, zodiac cruise or kayaking

1630-1730: afternoon tea and snack

1730: afternoon activity- today we had the polar plunge BUT this can also be a learning lecture or citizen science opportunity

1830: recap- the @polarlatitudes expedition leader will re-cap the day’s activities and go over tomorrows plan!

1930-2030: dinner- today we had a BBQ on the back deck while the ship maneuvered through icebergs and insane landscapes… insane!!!

Everything in Antarctica is weather dependent so this could always change slightly BUT that’s pretty much what a typical day in Antarctica looks like!! LMK if you have any questions!

Coming home from vacation 😮‍💨

I never thought I’d be the type to crave a home base. I’ve always been more of a “free spirit” and up until recently being a full time traveler was ALL I wanted out of life.

When we moved to Tahoe I knew I would love it here BUT - the one thing I did not expect was that I would actually MISS being here when we went on vacation 😭

We spent half of January out of the country - the longest we’ve spent away from home since we bought our house.

When we lived in the van, coming back from vacation and getting back into our daily routine used to give me the major blues. But lately I’ve found myself getting SO excited to land in Reno, make the hour drive to the mountains and pull the car into the driveway of our cozy little A frame in the woods 🏠

Tahoe has quickly become one of our favorite places in the entire world and coming home has never felt so right.

Im planning to share a LOT about our amazing vacation this week, but felt like our non vacation days needed to have a space on the feed as well 🫶🏼

So here’s some pics of the past month spent at our favorite place in the world!
