Yosemite is by far one of our favorite places to explore! We have been there countless times and each time we find new adventures and more magical places of the park to discover!

This trip was exceptionally special because it felt like a big full circle moment. YEARS ago, we came to Yosemite Valley with very little multi-pitch climbing skills (when you climb higher than one length of the rope) and tried to do a beginner multi-pitch climb. We got absolutely WORKED by the route. Sentry climbed it (barely), but he basically had to haul me up it because I wasn’t able to do the moves.

Last weekend we went back and did that same climb… and not only was it WELL within our skill level- I even LED one of the pitches (climbed first and placed protection gear as i went up)! I don’t ever want to let go of the high this trip gave me so here are some of my favorite memories from the best week ever!

1. Days without a shower & still one of my fav pics from the trip!
2. After leading very first climbing pitch on gear!! Feeling on top of the world 💪🏽
3. The welcoming committee every time we got back to the van after a climb! 🐶 We are soooo lucky to have the best van pup in the world!
4. Whipping out the @colemanusa grill for the first time in a while 👀 I forgot how fun it is to cook outside! I’m going to be using this thing a LOT more coming up 😎
5. Taking a dip in the FRIGID Merced river! Luckily it was a sunny day so it was super easy to warm back up!
6. So thankful for good friends who like to do fun things (and who also let me 5th wheel until Sentry comes) @the_adventureaddicts @codyandvictoria
7. The best climbing partner I could ever ask for! He is so patient with me and my climbing progression and is literally my biggest cheerleader 🥹
8. If you’ve never had the Half Dome pizza from the Deck in Curry Village- you’re missing out!! (Marinara. Mozzarella. Ricotta. Pepperoni. Salami. Chili Flake. Basil. Chili Oil. Honey) 🤤
9. Swinging over Yosemite Valley!!!
10. Not everything is as nice as it seems 😂 sports bra burn lines FTW 🤷🏼‍♀️

The stress of international travel can definitely take a toll on how you feel on those first few days of your bucket-list trip. We like to arrive at our destination rested and prepared so that we don’t miss a single second and here are three of our favorite hacks to help us do so!

💺 Middle Seat Trick
Its funny to me that this is not a well-known thing!! If you are traveling with a friend or partner you should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS book the aisle and window seat. If you book a window/middle, it is pretty much guaranteed that the third seat will be taken. However, if you go window/aisle, odds are MUCH higher that the middle seat will be empty! Worst case scenario- the middle is taken then you can just swap seats if you like and make that persons day!

📲 eSIM with @airalocom
I swear, eSIMs are the best thing that have happened to the travel world. I remember the days when we used run around the airport searching for a physical sim at EVERY SINGLE destination we travelled to… and then a few years ago we discovered Airalo and it has made our travel days significantly easier! 💤 Airport Pods!!
I always book the cheapest international flight I can possibly find which pretty much guarantees a 18-30hr ++ flight path and at least ONE long layover. I used to go curl up in a ball in the corner of the airport and ~try~ to get some sleep which (fun fact) never worked. And then I found out that a lot of airports have what they call “sleep pods” where you pay a small fee for a tiny room with a bed. Sleep pods have CHANGED MY LIFE on these long travel days and the fee you pay is nothing compared to the price of a shorter flight route!

…and then we didn’t get it 😂

I thought this was finally it- a little place near Tahoe to call home. Somewhere where we could park the van for the next few years while we built our dream little A frame in the woods… and just as quickly as we saw our future come to life- we lost it 🥲

The market here is tough. We’re competing with people who have way more money than we do- people who are buying their SECOND home, and people who buy land just so someone else can’t.

And we KNOW we did it to ourselves. We fell in love with a part of the world that is hard to own a home or land in.

And yes, of course we could move somewhere else and get much cheaper land.

But living here has lit a fire under our relationship with ourselves, with each other, and with the world. I have never felt more alive or more happy than I am right now and you literally CANNOT put a price on this kind of happiness 🥹

So for now we wait… and just hope and dream that OUR land becomes available one day 🤞🏽

1. Standing on the land that we truly truly thought would be ours 🥹
2. Sunset paddles have been our new fav thing lately!
3. We bought mountain bikes! So stoked to try a new outdoor activity 🚴
4. Don’t let the fun outdoorsy pics fool you- we basically live at Home Depot 😅
5. Still thawing out from winter… we got EIGHT inches of snow last weekend 🤯

We put off buying a satellite SOS phone for YEARS, but the more time we spent in the backcountry the more we realized we NEEDED one. We had seen and heard of too many people getting into trouble and not having a way to contact rescue and were determined to never be in that position ourselves.

Best Hike in Grand Canyon National Park 👇🏼

The Grand Canyon comes in at number 7 on our top ten national parks list!

When we first visited the Grand Canyon we only had time to take in the views from the rim… and to be honest I was overall incredibly underwhelmed with the whole thing.

It wasn’t until our second visit that we actually hiked down below the rim and holy moly was it an entirely different experience! Grand Canyon National Park went from our least favorite to literally making our top ten with just one simple hike!!

OKAY onto our favorite hike (or shall I say, hikes 😉)

Grand Canyon Rim2River

📍 South Kaibab Trail (down), Bright Angel Trail (up)
🥾 18 mi point to point
📈 4,800 ft elevation gain/loss

The Rim to River hike takes you all the way down to the very bottom of the Grand Canyon via the South Kaibab Trail where you cross the Colorado River and have the option to visit (or stay) at the historic lodge Phantom Ranch. Then you re-cross the Colorado via a second suspension bridge and ascend back to the South Rim via the Bright Angel Trail.

FULL DISCLOSURE: This adventure requires a significant amount of physical experience. The trail involves tremendous elevation changes, temperature fluctuations and demanding trail conditions. DO NOT ATEMPT without a good understanding of your personal limits :)

If you want to get below the rim without doing the crazy Rim2River route, I would suggest taking the South Kaibab Trail down to ooh/ahh point and then come back up the same way! You still get BREATHTAKING views and just dropping below the rim gets you away from the crowds.

Safety is our number one priority when we go hikin

Safety is our number one priority when we go hiking, climbing, backpacking, or do any other outdoor activity.

Our adventures typically take us to places where there’s no cell phone service and if we had an emergency & couldn’t call for help it would be detrimental.

That’s why we ALWAYS carry our @garminoutdoor inreach mini 2. It’s a satellite phone with a built in SOS button where we can easily get in contact with rescue personal should we get into any trouble in the backcountry.

Now there are TONS of brands and options of satellite phones to choose from & it’s easy to get overwhelmed with their extravagant features and cool tools… but the TRUE important life saving feature is that SOS button - it can literally be the difference between life and death.

While we love our sat phone there are def some down sides to them and I will be going over all of those in part 2!

We talk a lot about adventure travel over here. Hiking, climbing, backpacking, etc. & while we truly LOVE adventuring in the places we travel, we also love immersing ourselves in the culture and nature of our destinations—

There is NOTHING in this entire world like seeing an elephant family embrace each other 🥹 and love each other. In some ways going on this Tanzanian safari felt more rewarding than climbing Kilimanjaro 🤷🏼‍♀️

I can describe every single day of mountain climbing, but there are truly no words to describe the way it feels to experience the magic of the wild first hand✨
